Officers previously relied on laptops to run background checks or call a dispatcher to see whether a person has a warrant. They didn’t have much additional info on the person in front of them. Now the NY police force has Android devices pre-loaded with a tool that connects them to the huge database. Type in an address and you get to see how many of the people living there have committed a crime, for instance.
Now they have all of the info they need to make decisions in the field.
